The single’s A-side, “Like White Lightning Up A Black Snake’s Ass,” soaks shakers and hand drums in a warm bath of glowing, analogue synthesizer tones. The marriage of earthly percussion arrangements with pulsating, otherwordly textures give us a glimpse into Fofana’s futurist aspirations.

The single’s B-side, “%-} (Dizzy)” is even more unusual, more robot than alien—prepare for an ice-cold 4am techno jam that will leave you dreaming of evil MS-DOS commands casting spells in Aramaic.

SCI-FI & FANTASY is an electronic music label based in New York City, established in 2012 by Lamin Fofana. The label aims to release music that stands the test of time, music that is immune to the many cycles of hype that wash over the city and disappear just as quickly. This is no gimmick, no brand new micro-genre for the internet age; the label’s catalog will feature music rooted in NYC’s rich rhythmic history, music with soul and integrity.

SCIFI003 follows the release of SCIFI002 by Berlin-based digital aesthete Lotic and SCIFI001, a jacking NYC house bomb from retrofuturist muscleman Max McFerren.

Lamin Fofana is a New York City-based electronic musician who produces techno and house out of found sounds, human voices, digital synthesizers, analog synthesizers and drum machines. He recently started the record label SCI-FI & FANTASY, an NYC imprint dedicated to raw, grooving, and experimental electronic music. He has had releases on DUTTY ARTZ, Grizzly, Diskotopia, and Sticks N Stones Recordings.

Lōtic also recently presented an exclusive mix for URB Magazine title ‘The Weighing of the Heart’ which is still up for grabs.

This week’s special podcast comes from the mind of Houston-bred, Berlin-based “digital aesthetic” Lōtic. Signed to Brooklyn next-generation electronic label SCI-FI & FANTASY, the 23-year old producer dazzled us here at URB with his two-track scorcher “Sankofa/Glittering”, meshing together elements of ballroom, booming bass, footwork, industrial and experimental drone atmospheres to create a thoroughly unique sonic experience that will charm, confuse and cross dance floors. This is the epitome of “next shit”, people. With that said, Lōtic gave us a quick write-up of this special mix, entitled “The Weighing Of The Heart”; where he carved a path between the sounds of his own productions, his contemporaries, and his #feelings. SCI-FI & FANTASY’s second release, Sankofa / Glittering, comes from Houston-bred, Berlin-based digital aesthete Lōtic. Both cuts are trance-inducing, immersive mantras—nice, long compositions that slowly unfold to reveal thick textures and syncopated patterns. Think disintegrating tape loops with a techno-industrial edge.

 Throughout 2012, the 23-year old electronic music composer Lōtic has been making quiet interventions into a new experimental music movement with nodes in New York City, London, Texas, Chicago and Berlin. This spectral cluster of sounds and styles pulls in equal parts from popular culture and the avant-garde, embracing the unclassifiable and the unknown, eluding genre-fication.

Lōtic’s recent feature in Vice’s Motherboard and his wonderfully bizarre 8-track EP with Austin-based art/music collective #FEELINGS had our ear hairs tingling, so naturally we decided to give the man a proper New York introduction. He’ll be joining our roster with SCIFI002 — “Sankofa / Glittering” —following our last release, a body-jacking house bomb from young Max McFerren.

After our launch party last month, we decided we needed a bigger spaceship. We mortgaged the house, upgraded our little shuttle to an intergalactic Starliner, and we’ll be taking off from 285 Kent Avenue some time around 10PM, Saturday the 15th.

SCI-FI & FANTASY presents: RELICS, an all-night, into-the-morning warehouse party featuring label artist, affiliates and friends.

SCI-FI & FANTASY just released its first single, MAX MCFERREN’s “Hard Feeling” b/w “Tough Homme”—a chunky house record with retro-futurist angles and a muscular physique. Our next record is out in January and in the mean time we’d like to celebrate with SCI-FI’s label artists and help from our extremely talented homies at LIT CITY TRAX, TURRBOTAX, CLUSTER MAG, and TALACHA.

We managed to assemble nine of our favorite DJs who are going back-to-back all night with raw, grooving machine music from the far reaches of the known & unknown universe. Strap on your anti-gravity suits:

We’ve got a little party planned in New York’s lower east side at the beginning of next month—bringing the Sci-Fi vibe into the real world—and it’s going to be an absolute blast. It’s called TRANSITION and is the first in a series of Sci-Fi parties that will be bouncing between boroughs over the next few months. On Saturday, November 3rd, the SF&F family will come together IRL to house your face into the wee hours and since Tammany Hall has a capacity of, like, 85, it’s going to be an especially intimate occasion for our close friends and fans.
