Every few weeks as hundreds gather in a factory somewhere in Brooklyn, DJ/producer Blacky II is debuting original music. He’s been gauging people’s reactions, tuning his productions and taking his time to ensure that every track is built for one purpose: to make people dance.
Unlike a lot of producers in the age of overnightviralsuccess, Blacky II has been patient, putting together a collection of his most successful tracks from inside the club. He’s emerged from the underground with his debut release, Spirit of The Body, using the techniques of the forebears of house music—that is, experimenting with new music until people can’t stop themselves from grooving.
Spirit of the Body is a fascinating and versatile collection of dancefloor dreamweapons drawing from Blacky II’s recent stint in Montreal, with RnB influences and superbly affected vocals, an undeniable signature style of arpeggiation, and complex, moving rhythmic layers. With each track clocking in at 135bpm, this is not a collection of typical house jams but a bold attempt to redefine the peak hours of a club night. All three tracks are infectious dancefloor stompers with cutting edge architecture and timeless execution.
